Teacher Testimonials
Adventures With Jonny is a book suitable for preschool through the teenage years, boys and girls alike. Children are captivated by the rhythmic prose telling of a young boy's fishing adventure with his dad. Colorful, detailed illustrations bring Jonny's adventures to life. The author subtly teaches children to appreciate the beauty in nature, to take care of the environment, and to create and treasure family time. This book is an excellent resource for parents who need confidence to take their child on their first fishing trip. A detailed "How-To" section explains through text and illustration the step by step method to help you start fishing, and great techniques so you and your family can “get hooked”. This nonfiction piece is perfect even for students to read and learn on their own. Children are able to broaden their knowledge of many types of fish in a comical "Guess Which Fish" section which gives details of how big the fish can be, how much it weights, (math) it's habitat, and what it likes to eat! (science) Lastly, the book ends with a journal section for the reader and his/her family to record their own fishing adventures.
I teach in a culturally diverse community. Many of the children, before reading Jonny, were not exposed to Fishing. Most of the student's time after school, or on the weekends, is devoted to organized sports, video games, watching t.v., etc. After reading the story with the students, they wanted to hear it again, and again, and again! Their enthusiasm was sincere and refreshing. This story is a perfect springboard for writing about the child's own fishing adventure, the time they caught their first fish, or about a time they tried something new! Highly recommend ready Adventures With Jonny in the classroom with your students, and at home with your family.

Adventures with Jonny is a unique book. Essentially it’s 3 books in one: a tale of a father and son on a fishing trip, a family-friendly how-to fishing guide, along with a “Name that Fish!” game. Mike DiLorenzo’s presentation was entertaining and informative. The students left excited about fishing and the outdoors. We enjoyed his presentation so much we can’t wait to welcome him back to Ewell.

No school or classroom library is complete without this informative and enjoyable book. Perfect for sending with students headed on an outdoor vacation, this book has their trip’s learning held within. DiLorenzo has created a section in his book for each member of the family. Pre-School through second grade students will enjoy the story of Jonny with brightly colored illustrations complete with hide and seek features. Older students will learn about common freshwater fish, their habitats, and how to catch them in the "Name that Fish" section. Any parent will appreciate the straightforward and detailed information on getting started and enjoying the lifelong pastime of fishing. Perfect for all your outdoor enthusiast students and their families; don’t be left standing on the dock without your copy of "Adventures with Jonny, Let’s Go Fishing".

So, the 2011 school year is winding down and we have to thank all the schools that invited Mr. DiLorenzo to talk about writing books and motivating more kids outdoors. We always enjoy our time out and appreciate all the work and effort put forth for each visit. Most impressed with the number of students that knew "Why we got the U.P.?" and what is used to "set your knot." So many smart kids, teachers you should be proud.
A special shout out to Ruth Fox Elementary. We loved the Bulletin Board in the Media Center

Looks Fantastic!
